Treasure Hunt

It's Indiana Jones mania lately so of course the boys are crazy about all things Indy (this is Dave again, by the way). The other day I thought it would be fun to give them an Indiana Jones treasure hunting experience. What follows is the archived photo documentation of their archaeological expedition:

Discovery of the treasure map. It seems the builders of our house came across this map when they were digging the foundation for our house. They carelessly left it in the rafters above our furnace, clearly unaware of its value.

Closeup of the map. Hmmm, it looks like there's a lake, a bridge over a stream, some kind of building, and a peculiar tree. Maybe the words written above will provide some clues. Hey, there's a lake near our house, we should check it out!

That bridge looks promising... okay, what's next?

Hot on the trail. Hayden is in charge of the map, and Tanner in charge of the digging apparatus.

The broken bench from the clues, we must be getting close!

Not only must we trek through treacherous jungles, but we can hear bad guys nearby looking for the treasure as well. We have to beat them to it!

Hayden spots the crooked tree first. This is serious business, as you can tell from the look on his face.

Tanner digs first to unearth the treasure.

Hayden recovers the artifact and we retreat to a safe location to open it. According to this treasure's lore, the contents are made spontaneously based upon he who opens it first. I ask Hayden if I can open it first so I can get some power tools and beef jerky, but then quickly withdraw my request, as Hayden is it's true discoverer.

Incredible!

What a marvelous bounty of loot!
